The philosophy of the English Department of Northwood includes our constant attention to reading as the basis for success in the academic arena. We believe that summer reading should include choices and foster an interest in reading. We intentionally choose contemporary teen fiction as our main selections. However, teen fiction often includes mature language and situations. Therefore, we are including an alternate selection with no questionable material. We ask that parents take part in monitoring the summer reading assignments given to all of our students by researching the novels and helping students choose novels the student would find engaging. Projects, essays, and/or tests based on summer reading will be required within the first two weeks of school in the fall of the 2022-2023 school year.
