It’s Homecoming season for the Falcons! Mixed in with all the exciting events -such as the HOCO parade, pep rally, game, and dance- is the 2023-2024 Homecoming court. This year’s junior court consists of Emily Balentine, Nova Ackley, Audrey Madison, and Tyla Small; the Senior Court includes Leah Buckley, Morgan Davis, Harley Yoder, Bella Bickham, Ciara Smallwood, and Courtney Gardner. Lastly, the football sweetheart nominated by the Northwood High School football team is Adriana Linnear.
The junior and senior girls chosen to be on the Northwood homecoming court become part of a legacy on the NHS campus. With this legacy comes many responsibilities, such as participating in the annual class board-painting competition, being involved in all things homecoming -powderpuff, game night, spirit breakfast, and pep rally-, HOCO Court dinner, riding in the Homecoming parade, and, arguably the most anticipated, the announcement of the 2023-2024 NHS Homecoming Queen. When looking deeper, the girls on Homecoming court also have the tremendous responsibility of being a role model and leader for Northwood High School. Audrey Madison, a junior maid, looks back on her childhood watching the older girls on court and how she “always wanted to be one of them”; all of the female falcons on court become leaders on the NHS campus and role models for the future falcons.
Nominated by the NHS student body, the homecoming court takes this opportunity to represent their school as an honor. Leah Buckley, one of the senior maids on court, comments on how big of an honor it is to be on homecoming court and how she “truly loves her falcon family”. These girls are a true testament to how kindness and leadership are recognised and rewarded at Northwood High School. To see these girls and the new 2023-2024 NHS homecoming queen, join the falcons at the Homecoming game on September 29, at 7:00pm- Jerry Burton Stadium.
